These are the questions we get asked most often before a campervan hire in Perth, age and licence rules, what’s included, how booking works, and where you can actually drive. Short, plain answers, so you can book with no surprises. If your question isn’t here, message Dorian directly.
Who can hire

How old do I have to be?
The minimum age is 24, and that applies to every driver on the booking.
What licence do I need?
A valid, full driver’s licence held without restrictions. Probationary and learner licences aren’t accepted. We accept international licences, they need to be in English or come with a certified English translation, or you can bring an International Driving Permit alongside the original.
Bring the physical licence to pickup; a photo isn’t enough. If you’re a WA permanent resident, check the current overseas licence changes to make sure you’re compliant before you book.
What do I bring to pickup?
Your driver’s licence, photo ID (passport if you’re from overseas), your Camplify booking confirmation, and the card used for the booking in the driver’s name. That’s it.
Booking and payment
How do I book?
Browse the campervan range and 4WD campers, check live availability for your dates on the fleet listings, then book through Camplify, that’s where payment, insurance and the agreement are handled. Before you confirm, send Dorian a short message about your trip and drivers so he can check the camper suits your plan. Minimum hire is 3 days (some vehicles 4–5 days).
How does payment work?
Everything goes through Camplify, no direct payments to us. For bookings made 30 or more days out, a 25% deposit holds the dates and the balance is charged automatically 30 days before pickup. For bookings inside 30 days, it’s paid in full at booking. Camplify takes Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Camplify Credit. There’s no cash option.
What’s the cancellation policy?
Cancel more than 45 days out for a full credit (less admin fees); between 20 and 45 days for a 90% credit (booking fees aren’t refunded); inside 20 days, there’s no refund or credit. Book dates you’re confident about.
How do I reduce the insurance excess?
Hire includes comprehensive insurance and roadside assistance, and the excess can be reduced through Camplify’s MyWay cover. The camper excess page explains exactly how it works and what it costs.
How do I know I’m hiring from someone reputable?
Fair question, the most common complaint online is hiring a cheap van from an absent operator and getting stung on condition or support. A few checks on any hire: look for genuine reviews, confirm you can actually talk to the owner before booking, and check how the bond and excess work. With us you deal directly with Dorian, every vehicle is serviced every 7,000km, and there’s no big upfront bond. Photograph the van at pickup and drop-off whoever you hire from, it protects both sides.
Is a campervan always the cheapest option?
Not always, and we’ll be straight about it. For a short trip close to Perth, a regular car plus cabins can work out cheaper once you add diesel and site fees. The campervan pays off on longer trips, where you’d otherwise be booking accommodation and a car separately, combining the two is where it saves you money.
The vehicles

Are they automatic or manual?
Automatic. Easy for overseas visitors and on long drives.
How many people can a camper sleep?
Between two and four, depending on the vehicle. Couples usually take a 2WD van with a fixed bed; families take a camper that sleeps four. Compare the campervan and 4WD options if you’re deciding.
What’s included?
Every camper comes set up to travel off powered sites: a 300Ah lithium battery, 200W solar, a 3000W inverter, an induction cooktop and an 85–110L fridge-freezer, no gas. Bedding, a camp kitchen, comprehensive insurance, NRMA-style roadside assistance and the WA Parks Pass are all included. How it works has the full list.
Do the campers have a toilet or shower?
No toilet, drop toilets are common across WA’s national parks and camps. Some campers carry a larger water tank and an outdoor camp shower; others are set up lighter. Ask which suits how remote you’re heading.
Can I bring a child seat?
The vehicles are child-seat-ready, with lower anchor points and seatbelt pass-throughs. We don’t supply the seats, so bring your own, and make sure it meets WA child restraint standards. Flag it when you book so we can show you the anchor points at handover.
Can I add Starlink?
Yes. Starlink is available as an add-on (minimum 7 days) if you want internet at remote camps. Arrange it right after booking so it’s ready for pickup, see Starlink hire.
Are pets allowed?
No. There are no pets and no smoking in any vehicle.
Pickup and drop-off

Where and when do I collect the camper?
Pickup and return are Perth only, between 7am and 6pm, with free pickup near Perth Airport. There are no one-way hires, so plan your trip as a loop back to Perth. Allow 30–45 minutes at handover, we walk you through the vehicle and the camp setup, and swap phone numbers so you can reach us on the road.
Should I collect the camper straight after my flight?
Better not to. Picking up a camper jet-lagged and then driving, on the left, if you’re not used to it, on unfamiliar roads is how trips start badly. Spend a night in Perth first. Pickup is near the airport, so it’s an easy taxi back once you’ve had some sleep.
What condition do I return it in?
Return it with a full diesel tank (the correct fuel) and a clean interior, we handle the exterior, and please don’t use power washers. Do a final sweep for personal items, return all the gear and bedding, and report any damage straight away. Returning it as you found it avoids cleaning or excess fees.
On the road
Is there a kilometre limit?
There’s a 200km-per-day allowance, averaged across the whole hire, so a long day is fine as long as it balances out over the trip. Extra kilometres are charged. WA distances add up faster than people expect, so map your route against it.
Where can I drive, and where can’t I?
The campers are built for sealed roads and short, formed gravel access into campsites. They’re not permitted on, and not insured on, sand, beaches, river crossings, heavily corrugated roads, or remote 4WD tracks like the Gibb River Road or Canning Stock Route. If your route has long gravel stretches, check with Dorian before booking.
Can I camp anywhere?
No. WA enforces its camping rules and fines apply for overnighting outside designated areas. Use national park and caravan-park campgrounds or recognised free and low-cost sites, and book park sites ahead in busy periods.
Where can I sleep overnight in and around Perth?
Not just anywhere, overnighting in a street or beach car park isn’t allowed, and free camping in the Perth metro area is limited. Use a caravan park or designated campground for your first and last nights near the city, then designated sites and national parks once you’re on the road.
What happens if I get a fine?
You’re responsible for any traffic or parking fines during the hire, and they’re passed on to the card on the booking. The vehicles carry GPS tracking, which is there for insurance and roadside assistance.
