The case for it

The most autonomous vehicle we run.

Western Australia doesn't do small, from the white sand of Esperance to the gorges of Karijini. The 2.0 is the rig built so the distance between towns stops being the thing you plan around.

Travel longer between towns. Carry 100 litres of onboard water and rinse off after the beach without hunting for public facilities. The integrated tank and plumbed camp shower are the single biggest upgrade for WA travellers: no rationing, no detours to fill up on a two-week run.

Behind that sits the autonomy. 300Ah lithium, 200W solar and a 3000W inverter, charged by the alternator while you drive and by solar while you park, run the 85L fridge-freezer that keeps ice cream frozen in the outback. Roof Starlink keeps you online days from the nearest town. It's the longest-range, least-compromised build in the fleet.

2.0 or the original?

The rebuild, or the original?

They look similar on a listing page, here's the honest difference so you book the right one.

  • THE ORIGINAL · FROM $150/DAY

    Offgrid Wanderer

The original 2024 Musso. Queen rooftop tent, 270° awning, 300Ah / 3000W, roof Starlink, and a 22L portable pressure camp shower, the connected basecamp at the lower daily rate.

Pick the original if: the lower rate matters and a portable shower is plenty. See the Wanderer

  • THIS ONE · FROM $160/DAY

    Wanderer 2.0

The ground-up rebuild: brand-new vehicle, larger rooftop tent, and an integrated 100L water tank with a plumbed built-in camp shower (the original carries a 22L portable one). The most self-sufficient rig we run.

Pick the 2.0 if: you want the newest build, the bigger tent and 100L of on-board water for the longest remote runs.

  • A friend and I spent three weeks in the van and had an unreal experience! We travelled the coast from Perth to Wharton Bay and back, and it was perfect for it, cookware, awning, table and chairs, rain cover, toaster, everything we needed. The rooftop tent was super comfy and spacious, and everything was really easy to use. Dorian's briefing was really helpful and he was great to deal with throughout. Would definitely recommend.

  • We rented this for our trip from Perth to Exmouth and it was exactly what we needed. The vehicle was completely new, super clean and well looked after. It felt very reliable the whole way and was really easy to drive. Fully equipped for camping, rooftop tent, kitchen gear, storage, everything organised and ready to go. Dorian was super friendly and helpful at handover.

Alessio · · verified Camplify hire (Wanderer)
  • Great holiday. Dorian was very responsive to our questions. The vehicle is amazing and has all the necessities for a great camping trip in WA: fridge, induction cooking, device charging through the battery and solar, full cooking set, seats and a table. The 30-second rooftop tent is easy to set up and comfortable to sleep in. Modern to drive too, USB-C and Apple CarPlay. Would recommend to anyone.

Dorian rebuilt the Wanderer 2.0 himself.

This isn't a fleet bought in bulk from a supplier. Dorian has lived in Perth for over a decade and driven most of WA. The 2.0 came off his own conversion bench, every system reconsidered from real trips: the bigger tent, the 100L water and built-in shower, the power to stay off-grid for weeks. He answers the phone, hands you the keys, and runs the briefing himself. Twelve percent of bookings are people coming back.

Best for

The trips this 4WD is made for.

Two travellers who want the newest build, the most on-board water, and to stay connected from remote WA.

  • LONG CORAL COAST RUN

Perth → Kalbarri → Coral Bay → Exmouth

The full Coral Coast, Kalbarri, Coral Bay, Exmouth and the Cape Range / Ningaloo sealed approaches. The 100L tank is what makes the long remote stretches comfortable.

  • REMOTE WORK + TRAVEL

    You can't fully unplug

Roof Starlink up to 200 Mbps lets you file work and upload the timelapse from a campsite days from town, then close the laptop.

  • SOUTH-COAST BEACHES

    Lucky Bay, Wharton, Esperance

The gentle beach drives are on the menu, built-in shower to rinse the salt off before climbing into a clean tent. Karijini possible by request on certain dates.

  • NOT FOR

Hardcore off-roading (or 4 sleepers today)

No Gibb River Road, Canning Stock Route, Gunbarrel, dunes, river crossings or soft sand. And it sleeps 2 right now, the 4-sleeper second tent isn't fitted yet.

FAQ

The questions 4WD travellers ask first.

Anything else, ring Dorian on 0422 428 584.

Q.01 How many people does the Wanderer 2.0 sleep right now?

Two today. The large rooftop tent is a queen that comfortably sleeps two adults, and it's big enough to take a toddler in with you if needed. A second rooftop tent is planned that will expand it to four sleepers, but it is NOT fitted yet, so book this as a 2-person (couples + small child) vehicle. Need more beds in the meantime? We can set you up with a ground tent or swags on request.

Q.02 What's the difference between this and the original Wanderer?

The 2.0 is a ground-up rebuild, not a facelift. Versus the original Wanderer: a larger rooftop tent, an integrated 100L water tank with a built-in camp shower (instead of the original's 22L portable shower), and a premium electrical setup for longer off-grid autonomy. It's $160/day vs the original's $150. Same off-grid philosophy and off-road policy, more water, bigger tent, newer build.

Q.03 Is the setup quick?

Yes, the rooftop tent deploys in under 2 minutes. It's a queen with an inflatable mattress (pump provided), breathable antimicrobial-treated bedding that washes easily. Set it up once at camp and leave it; you're not packing it down every morning.

Q.04 How long can it stay off-grid?

Weeks, realistically. 300Ah lithium, 200W rooftop solar and a 3000W inverter, charged by both the vehicle alternator while driving and solar while parked. That runs the 85L fridge-freezer (ice cream in the outback, sorted), kettle and toaster without ever booking a powered site.

Q.05 Tell me about the Starlink and connectivity.

Equipped models carry a roof-mounted Starlink delivering up to ~200 Mbps even while moving, built for remote workers and digital nomads who want to upload the sunset timelapse without waiting to get back to town. There's a 12-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Starlink data is billed separately; ask us to confirm it's fitted on your dates.

Q.06 Price, pickup and where it goes?

From $160/day, 3-day minimum, driver age 24+. WA National Parks Pass on the vehicle, comprehensive insurance and roadside assistance, 200 km/day (excess $0.60/km). Sealed highways plus up to 10km of well-graded gravel access (max 60km/h); Lucky Bay and Wharton Beach are fine; no Gibb River Road, Canning Stock Route, Gunbarrel, soft sand or dunes. Pickup and return near Perth Airport, Perth only, no one-ways.

Fuel cost estimator

Roughly what you'll spend on fuel for a WA trip. Pick the camper, set the distance, drop in today's pump price. It's an estimate, real use depends on load, terrain, aircon, headwinds and how you drive.

Every camper is supplied with a full tank of fuel and must be returned with a full tank.

Estimate only. Fleet averages: diesel ≈ 12.5 L/100km, petrol ≈ 14 L/100km, edit the L/100km if your route is heavy on gravel, hills or headwinds. Fuel is paid by you and is on top of the hire price and Camplify insurance.
