Camplify MyWay Explained: Excess and Cover for Hirers

What Camplify's MyWay cover means when you hire a camper, how your excess and damage cover work on a trip, what's not covered, and how it ties into booking with us.

Camplify MyWay Explained: Excess and Cover for Hirers

If you’re hiring a campervan through Camplify, as you do with us, you’ll come across “MyWay”. It’s the cover that sits behind your booking, and it’s worth understanding the basics so you know what you’re protected for and what you’re not. Here’s the plain-English version, from a hirer’s point of view (not the owner’s).

A campervan parked at a calm WA coastal campsite with a camp chair facing the water, a relaxed, worry-free scene.

What MyWay actually is

MyWay Protect is Camplify’s member-funded protection scheme, run by MyWay Mutual. The honest distinction worth knowing: it’s discretionary risk protection, not traditional insurance. In practice that means claims are reviewed and approved by the MyWay Mutual board against their guidelines, rather than being a guaranteed payout, and it isn’t APRA-regulated like a standard insurer.

For the vast majority of hires that distinction never matters, approved claims are paid from a managed, reinsured fund. But it’s the kind of thing you should know rather than find out later, which is exactly why we’re spelling it out.

What it means for you on a hire

When you book one of our campers, comprehensive cover and NRMA-style roadside assistance are included through Camplify, you’re not driving uninsured. The figure that matters to you is the excess: what you’d be liable for if there were a claim. You can reduce that excess by choosing a MyWay excess-reduction level when you book, the more cover you take, the less you’d pay out of pocket in an incident.

We’ve laid out exactly how the excess works and what each level costs on the camper excess page, read that before you confirm your dates.

What’s covered on a trip

For the vehicle you’ve hired, MyWay covers the usual physical-damage events, accidents, theft or attempted theft, storm and hail, flood, fire and malicious damage, plus third-party liability (damage you cause to someone else’s property or person). There’s also roadside assistance, towing to the nearest repairer if the camper’s immobile, and windscreen-chip cover. The day-to-day stuff is handled.

What’s not covered, the important bit

This is where hirers get caught, and it’s simple: cover doesn’t apply if you drive somewhere you’re not allowed. With our campers that means sealed roads and short, formed gravel access only, no sand, beaches, river crossings, corrugated unsealed roads or remote 4WD tracks (beach driving is permitted only on the hard sand at Lucky Bay and Wharton Beach near Esperance). Damage from a prohibited surface is on you, not the fund.

Cover also won’t apply to misuse, breaking the rental rules, driving under the influence, off-platform arrangements (anything not booked through Camplify), or, for owners, overdue fees. Drive where the terms allow and you’re fine.

Photograph everything (this is what protects you)

Because cover runs through Camplify and hinges on the vehicle’s condition, do the one thing that settles every dispute: take photos of the camper inside and out at pickup and at drop-off. It’s the single best protection against a “was that there before?” disagreement, and it’s why a proper handover matters. If something goes wrong on the road, contact us (the owner) first, take photos at the time, and we’ll guide you through it, there’s no separate claim for you to lodge.

How it works with our hire

The short version: we book through Camplify, so your hire comes with comprehensive cover and roadside included, your excess is reducible via MyWay, there’s no big upfront bond, and you’re protected as long as you drive where you’re permitted. Compare the campervan and 4WD camper options, see how it works, and check live availability on the fleet listings.

FAQs

Is Camplify MyWay the same as insurance?

Not quite, it’s discretionary risk protection run by a mutual, where claims are assessed and approved by the board rather than guaranteed like a standard insurance policy. In practice approved claims are paid from a managed, reinsured fund, but it’s worth knowing the distinction.

Do I need my own insurance if I hire through Camplify?

For the vehicle, no, comprehensive cover is included with the hire, and you can reduce the excess via MyWay. Keep your own travel insurance for personal belongings, flights and medical, which the vehicle cover doesn’t include.

How do I lower my excess?

Choose a MyWay excess-reduction level when you book. The camper excess page sets out the levels and costs.

What voids the cover?

Driving on prohibited surfaces (sand, beaches, river crossings, corrugated/remote tracks), breaking the rental rules, driving under the influence, or any arrangement not booked through Camplify.

What should I do if there’s damage?

Photograph it, contact us (the owner) straight away, and we’ll walk you through it. Having pickup and drop-off photos makes the whole thing simple.
